Search Options
This option allows you to search the Index of Titles containing approximately 40,000
titles. It also allows you to search the Example Titles section of the NOC.
The alphabetical search feature allows you to click on a letter or number in order
to receive an alphabetical listing of all titles in the NOC Index of Titles.
The Keyword(s) Search allows you to enter one or more keywords in order to receive
a listing of titles in the Index of Titles.
The NOC Code Search allows you to enter a NOC Code in order to receive a listing
of titles in the Index of Titles.
By selecting one of the Skill Types, you will get a list of all job titles found
under the Skill Type you have chosen. By selecting one of the Skill Levels, you
will get a list of all job titles in the Skill Level you have chosen. You may choose
to search only one of these parameters or a combination of both.
The Structure search allows you to search the NOC Structure using Skill Type and/or
Skill Level. You may choose to search only one of these parameters or a combination
of both. This type of search can lead you to the NOC descriptions.
Skill Type
The Skill Type is based on the type of work performed. The Skill Type represents
the first digit of an NOC Code.
- 0 - Management occupations
- 1 - Business, finance and administration occupations
- 2 - Natural and applied sciences and related occupations
- 3 - Health occupations
- 4 - Occupations in education, law and social community and government services
- 5 - Occupations in art, culture, recreation and sport
- 6 - Sales and service occupations
- 7 - Trades, transport and equipment operators and related occupations
- 8 - Natural resources, agriculture and related production occupations
- 9 - Occupations in manufacturing and utilities
Skill Level
The Skill Level corresponds to the second digit of the NOC code. It corresponds
to the type and/or amount of training or experience required to work in a given
occupation.
- A - Occupations usually require university education
- B - Occupations usually require college education or skilled apprenticeship training
- C - Occupations usually require secondary school and/or occupation-specific training
- D - Short demonstration or on-the-job training is usually provided
There are four skill levels that are identified by a range of letters, A to D, which
are then further assigned a numerical value ranging from 1 to 6.
- A = Level 1
- B = Level 2 and/or 3
- C = Level 4 and/or 5
- D = Level 6
Management Occupations for the Selected Skill Type
This checkbox allows you to get all the Management Occupations for the Skill Type that has been selected.
The NOC Occupational Descriptions Search allows you to search all sections of the
500 NOC Occupational Descriptions by using a range of search methods.
Keyword(s) or Numerical Textbox
The textbox allows you to input one or many keywords or numerical values that will
be used to perform the search.
Search Sections
The Description section allows the user to search the different sections of an NOC
profile. You must select at least one of the options below in order to receive results.

If more than one keyword or numerical code is inserted in the textbox, it is possible
to manage the relationship between the keywords. The "Using" operator defines the
relationship between the keywords. If you select the "And" operator, the search
will have to find each keyword or numerical code at least once in the searched field
in order to return a result.
If you select the "Or" operator, the search will return a result if at least one
of the keywords or numerical codes is found in the searched field.
This section defines the different search options that are available when performing
a keyword search:

"Like"
This search returns results that include every string in the specific order as entered.
The string may be included anywhere in the associated text.
A search for "wheel maker" will return "abrasive wheel maker," "abrasive wheel maker,
diamond," and "abrasive wheel maker, rubber."
"Exact"
This search returns results that match exactly the string(s) entered.
A search for "abrasive wheel maker" will only return: "abrasive wheel maker."
"Begins with"
This search returns results that begin with the specified string(s) entered.
A search for "accounting" will return: "accounting clerk," and "accounting clerks
supervisor."
"Ends with"
This search returns results that ends with the specified string(s) entered.
A search for "supervisor" will return: "accounting clerks supervisor," and "accountants
supervisor."
"Exclude"
This search returns results that do not include the string(s) entered.
A search for a title not including the input string "art painter" will return: "apprentice
industrial painter and decorator" and "agricultural sciences technician."
This section allows you to select how the results will be displayed. The results
may be sorted either: Alphabetically, by NOC Code, Skill Level, unit group, numerical, ascending or descending.
By selecting this option, your results will be sorted alphabetically.
By selecting this option, your results will be sorted by NOC code.
By selecting this option, your results will be sorted by Skill Level.
By selecting this option, your results will be sorted by Unit Group Title.
By selecting this option, your results will be sorted by numerical order of the
NOC Code.
You can also choose the order in which you wish to display the results: Ascending
(default value) or Descending.
This allows you to do a complex search of the NOC by keyword(s) or NOC code, using and/or, like, exact, begins with, ends with. It also allows you to search sections of the structure, the descriptions and or the Index of Titles. Furthermore, and you can indicate the order of the results to be displayed by choosing ascending, descending, code, group title and skill level.
The search button allows you to activate the search mechanism. The results will
be shown once the search has been completed.
